DRAGONHIDE® Polyurea Topcoats
DragonHide Polyurea Combination, Delivers Parts with Superior Corrosion and Vibration Resistance.
Get a Quote for Polyurea Topcoat ServicesDragonHide, developed by PPG, is an elastomeric coating that is formed by spraying a resin and a cross-linking catalyst uniformly to create a tough coating that cures internally without the use of heat. A proprietary blend, the material has a rapid cure time, which makes it more tolerant to moisture during the curing process than other urethane coatings. The material is sprayed above 1000 psi to insure the right ratio of both products and the coating thickness of 20 to 40 mils or a film thickness as needed for any OEM requirement. To insure the application method produces coating films that are very repeatable, the delivery guns are attached to an integrated programmable robot.
Environmentally advantageous, DragonHide is a non-flammable material that is developed without solvents and is free of volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). Additionally, energy usage is drastically reduced by removing the need to bake parts after coatings are applied.
In conjunction with technical resources from a major OEM and the PPG Industrial Coatings group, our Ft. Wayne facility was invited to design and install a new coating line to apply two-component polyurea liquid paint technology on fuel tank bands. Operation of the new system began in 2016. Fuel bands move along the conveyor system and through the robotic coating chambers using computerized programs. DragonHide is fully approved by Ford Motor Company to specification WSS-M99P40-A3/A4 and is also approved by General Motors. When applied over PPG’s epoxy Electrocoat, DragonHide provides superior corrosion protection and abrasion resistance in the toughest environments.
